At last night’s 2012 San Diego Press Club Awards, another personal mark of achievement was set by Jamie Reno. The cancer survivor, singer-songwriter and busy journalist officially claimed a record dozen citations, including a record-tying seven first places.
Reno won these honors for his work with ESPN.com,
KPBS Newsweek/The Daily Beast, newsmax.com and the North County Times. He has been a local Newsweek correspondent for many years and is no stranger to previous San Diego Press Club ceremonies.
Patch was also celebrating after last night’s event. Its San Diego area sites were second only to U-T San Diego in terms of total prizes claimed (nine first places, 24 total awards).
City press club awards can be a tricky thing, with an often elastic nomination process that stretches as far and wide as a particular year’s overall volume of entries. For example, there were more than 135 different award categories for this year’s San Diego derby.
Still, a win’s a win and Reno can – at least until next year – own the San Diego Press Club individual achievement record.
