The Advocate Returns to Newsstands

Since 2010, the print version of The Advocate has been circulating on a subscription basis only. But beginning January 15 at Barnes & Noble, Hastings and other outlets, the monthly publication will be back on newsstands. Per today’s announcement:

“Due to both reader and advertiser demand, we are thrilled to bring The Advocate print edition back to newsstands in 2013,” said editor-in-chief Matthew Breen and executive vice president publishing Joe Landry in a joint statement. “We remain committed to providing timely and in-depth reporting of issues important to the LGBT community and our community allies, as well as providing the best media outlet for businesses targeting the gay market.”

These are busy cross-platform times for The Advocate and LA parent HereMedia. Last month, Here TV launched The Advocate’s Seat Filler, an ongoing five-minute Great White Way chronicle for the program Just Josh and streaming on websites advocate.com, OUT.com, shewired.com, gay.com and gay.net.

The first Broadway production profiled by host Josh Rosenzweig was Bring It On. The Advocate will retail on newsstands for $5.99. Read Breen’s Editor’s Letter here.
