John Walsh Stumbles Into an Episode of ‘AFTRA’s Most Wanted’

Variety reporter Dave McNary was in attendance Monday night at the AFTRA Media and Entertainment Excellence awards (AMEEs). He relates a pretty good ad lib by honoree David Crosby.

The singer was one of three award recipients at the Club Nokia gala dinner event. Crosby received the Sound Recordings nod, while America’s Most Wanted host John Walsh was recognized for Entertainment and long-time Spanish language Dodgers broadcaster Jaimee Jarrin took home the honors for Broadcasting.

Despite a total of only three trophies, Walsh somehow wound up with the one meant for Crosby. From the stage, MC Bob Edwards asked him to return it, and later Crosby riffed, “John, if you had gone off with this, I would have had to put you on your own show.”

On a far more serious note, Crosby recalled during his acceptance speech that without the AFTRA health plan, he might not have received a life-saving liver transplant some 16 years ago.
