Amina Akhtar, a former New York magazine fashion editor, executive editor at Elle and digital editions editor for Vogue, is about to start as the editorial director of a website launched 13 years ago – this month. Per comScore, theFashionSpot – a community of designers, stylists and influencers that is part of Evolve Media’s TotallyHer brand – notched 2.5 million unique visitors in May.

Amina’s most recent stint was at Vogue, where her responsibilities included managing the tablet edition. Prior to that, she was the executive editor for elle.com, where she oversaw all online editorial while working closely with marketing to develop custom content advertising packages.
“We are increasing our investment in theFashionSpot, starting with the editorial team,” said Rebecca Schmitt, vice president and general manager of Los Angeles-headquartered TotallyHer Media. “Amina’s vision will help us continue our growth trajectory with an original, behind-the-scenes voice that appeals to the fashion and beauty influencers at the core of our audience.”
Akhtar joins an editorial team that currently includes managing editor Jennifer Davidson, associate editor Nika Mavrody and editor-at-large Julie Bensman. To coincide with the most recent New York Fashion Week, Tim Gunn was the site’s February guest editor.
Akhtar starts July 21 and will be based in New York.
