Another NY-Area J-School?

FishbowlNY has received a tip from a trusted source that the State University of New York’s Stony Brook branch has decided to start a full-fledged journalism program, maybe even a J-School.

A story late last year in the local press said the curriculum of a proposed journalism program had not been decided, but they were planning to hire as many as four full-time faculty.

“This would be the eighth attempt to get a journalism major at Stony Brook since 1965, according to former Newsday editor Howard Schneider,” said the local paper, which called him “cautiously optimistic.” The tipster tells us Schneider will lead the program, which will first be undergrad, then postgrad.
