Big morning for the AOL HuffPo–or A-Ho as we sometimes like to call it. The company announced two new hires. Lori Leibovich was named the new “Women’s Editor” and Neil Katz is the new “Executive News Editor,” after apparently being poached away from the same position at CBSNews.com. Katz will help manage the site’s network of editors and oversee the introduction of more videos into coverage.
Aside from the new hires, the company also announce the launch of two new sections: AOL Industry and AOL Healthy Living. We think everyone out there can figure out what Healthy Living is all about. Greek yogurt and antioxidants and yoga and whatnot. But AOL Industry sounds kind of interesting. From what we can gather, the section doesn’t look like it intends to go in a straight news direction. Instead, it’s targeting the trades in the energy, government and defense industries. Trade coverage is often sycophantic–since the pubs are going after industry ad dollars–so it will be interesting to see what kind coverage comes out of AOL Industry. Is Arianna Huffington going to be overseeing positive coverage of the latest Boeing war machines, or lunatic arguments about the benefits of “clean coal?”
We’ll definitely be reading.
