Are You There Publishing? It’s Jezebel!

finelinesgallery062408.jpgIf we could order this on Amazon right this second we would, along with copies for every single person we have even the slightest affection for. That’s how thrilled we are to hear that Lizzie Skurnick has just landed a book deal with Harper Collins based on her Jezebel feature “Fine Lines.”

The feature, which runs every Friday, is a little bit like walking into our local library circa 1985 (or, depending on the book, the girls bathroom in our Catholic school where sole contraband copies handed down from older sisters would be exchanged) for the best reading group ever. For those of you not familiar, each week Skurnick gives “a sentimental, sometimes-critical, far more wrinkled look at the children’s and YA books we loved in our youth.” Past titles have included The Girl With The Silver Eyes, Deenie, Then Again, Maybe I Won’t, Are You In The House Alone? The Cat Ate My Gymsuit and From The Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. And now it’s going to be a book!

As Rachel Sklar points out this is the first “non-Gawker Gawker book” since “the deal is for Skurnick separate and apart from parent company Gawker Media.” We would like to point out that should you have your own title suggestions Skurnick is listening. Speaking for ourselves, she had us at Little House.
