Tapper Spanks Curtis Sliwa: The Transcript

Curtis Sliwa is a class act. He reeks of swellegance and savoir faire (Averted Gaze). After calling Barbara Walters a ”cadaver in formaldehyde,” and Joy Behar ”Joyless,” and Whoopi Goldberg, ”The Whoopster with all of the add-ons to her dreadlocks,” WABC’s resident rapier wit had ABC’s Jake Tapper on the phone to talk about Reverend Wright’s … behavior. Tapper, of course, caught the irony. Hereafter, an invitiation to a media spanking; Transcript:

Sliwa: I’d never hear that he had Jake Tapper of ABC national news, Have you or any of your colleagues ever heard that the Reverend Jeremiah Wright in fact knew he had deeply offended people?

Jake Tapper: No, I have not, but … can I take issue for a second with the way you described the women on The View?

Sliwa: Oh oh

More after the jump …

Will Anyone Catch Kurt Andersen In An Error?

Elder brother to the New York Chattering Classes and National Magazine Award nominee in the Columns and Commentary category, Kurt Andersen has a standing challenge on his blog — and, yes, he has one — daring anyone to catch him in an error in his sweeping magnum opus, Heyday. It’s been over three months and no one has laid claim to the bragging rights. There are still a few days to lay claim to having caught the blameless Mr. Andersen in an error — ! — and, in the process to claim some literary booty in the process. From Kurt Andersen’s December 30th post, right before he began his book tour:

”Now, a confession and an offer. There were two tiny factual errors in the hardcover which I’ve corrected in the paperback. To the first person who tells me what they were (at — or, failing that, to whomever finds either one of them by April 1, 2008 — I’ll send a personally inscribed copy of the book plus the unabridged, 22-CD BBC Audiobooks America edition.”

We here at FishbowlNY know how you, dear readers, love to correct our errors, sometimes with, uh, aggressive relish. So we’re turning you on Kurt. You have three days left.

David Allen Grier Satirizes The News Magazine Format

Urban news satire, anyone? Set to premiere in the first quarter of 2009, the tentatively titled David Allen Grier’s Chocolate News is set to spoof magazine shows from a decidedly urban angle. From the press release:

”’David Alan Grier’s Chocolate News’ (working title) is a fake magazine show hosted by ‘In Living Color’ alum and Tony(R) Award-nominee David Alan Grier that makes no apologies for its biased approach as it investigates inherently urban pop culture topics such as an operation to save black and white conjoined twins, steroid use in Little Leaguers and a rapper’s public service announcement gone awry. The point-of-view is decidedly from an African American perspective and everyone and everything is fair game for Grier and his regular team of investigators. The series will be executive produced by Grier (‘Little Man’), Robert Morton (‘Mind of Mencia’), Fax Bahr and Adam Small (‘MADtv’) and Generate’s Peter Aronson and Jordan Levin.”

Comedy Central announced the greenlighting of this news business comedy show as part of their 2008-2009 development slate.

Curtis Sliwa Versus Jake Tapper

ABC News Senior National Correspondent & Senior Political Correspondent Jake Tapper got into a spot of the old rough and tumble on Curtis Sliwa’s WABC radio program this morning. Sliwa, who has what can only be properly construed as a very combustible, Brooklyn-streets style, had, earlier in the program, made some highly unflattering remarks about Barbara Walters’ age. Tapper, who was apparently on hold during the radio vivisection and heard the remarks, immediately confronted Sliwa when he got on the air:

Tapper: I was invited to discuss inappropriate comments by Reverend Wright … inflammatory … and you’re describing Barbara Walters

Sliwa: — You’ve already scored your points with her.

Oh, it was on like Gray Poupon!
