Bad Reviews? What Bad Reviews? Da Vinci Code‘s $224M Opening

davincicode_opening.jpgVia Nikki Finke:

Da Vinci Code earned $224 million worldwide, making it the second biggest opening weekend of all time worldwide. (The only movie that did better was Star Wars 3, the last of the prequels, with $254 mil). That DVC figure broke down to $147 mil internationally, and $77 mil domestically.

And Daily News:

In Italy, where the Vatican had called on Catholics to boycott the film because of the suggestion Jesus had a child with Mary Magdalene, “Da Vinci” notched the highest grossing weekend ever, with $11.5 million.

So much for those unsavoiry, er, unsavory reviews, eh?
