Black Book’s Back (and clearly it never left)
Black Book Magazine has seen all sorts of drama over the past few weeks – reports that it was financially strapped and on the block; the ouster of founder and creative director Evan Schindler, complete with a changing of the locks; and Schindler’s attempts to undermine Black Book by inviting advertisers to pull their ads and inviting staffers to quit in solidarity with him (also as per Jossip).
Well, the next issue of Black Book is out and quells any doubt that it’s staying put. Not only is the masthead intact, but the issue is a boldfacer’s dream with contributions by Megan Daum, Anthony Haden-Guest, Helena Christienson, Karim Rashid, James Frey, Rick Moody, Salam Pax (from Baghdad blog “Where is Raed?“), Salmon Rushdie, Richard Hell, and “eligible bachelor on the downtown scene” Dana Vachon. It’s actually the travel issue (or, more specifically, “Travel and the Romantic Ideal”) and in keeping with same they have a list of the best hotels for sex, which this blogger can neither confirm or deny but some other bloggers maybe can. Plus there is a total shout-out to us on pg. 36 in “Sleep With The Fishes” regarding a new underwater hotel in the Bahamas. We’re sure they meant “Sleep with the Fishies” (and if they did, we’re also sure that said Bahamian hotel would also make that list).
