‘Blogger’ Makes its Ich Bin Ein Debut

2008-07-24-screen.jpgOver the week-end the Times pointed out that Barack Obama‘s rock-star-ish Berlin speech had shades in it of, well, just about every rhetorical genius of the last 500 years. They drew comparisons to Kennedy, Reagan, Lincoln, and even (rather tenuously) Shakespeare. However! A twitterer has pointed out to us that Obama’s speech had something none of those others contained: the word ‘blogger.’

Will we stand for the human rights of the dissident in Burma, the blogger in Iran, or the voter in Zimbabwe? Will we give meaning to the words “never again” in Darfur?
No doubt fame, fortune, and international respect will follow us all, such is the power of Obama. Last month we noted that the word ‘blog’ had made its debut “above the fold” at the Times, so maybe all we need now is a nod from the Pope and we will be seriously legitimate! In the meantime, we’d be happy if the word would just stop showing up as an error in our spell check.
