FishbowlLA is somewhat disappointed that during Wednesday night’s interview on Conan with Chelsea Handler, both the host and guest failed to bring up the fact that the queen of all media will be taking over his old Tonight Show studio later this year.
There were plenty of segue
way opportunities. At the outset of the conversation, Handler complimented O’Brien on his new TBS-Warner Bros. studio lot digs. Later, Coco made several milquetoast references about holding no grudges against NBC as Handler plugged her spinoff sitcom, which debuted last night on the Peacock.
The move by Handler to Universal City is going to mean a much larger, livelier studio audience. It should greatly re-energize the show as well as provide her ragtag crew with a lot of fun new remote-sketch opportunities.
When Handler broke the news about her move at the TCA Winter Session this past weekend, she did not mention O’Brien by name. So perhaps everyone is treating the recent Tonight Show morass as a sensitive, gags-off territory. Too bad, because Conan could surely have given Handler some very funny new-studio pointers.
