We're just two one lost soul swimming in a fishbowl...

Friend of the Fishy is a friend of mine.jpgIt's official: MB editor-in-chief Elizabeth Spiers is swimming off into the sunset. Our beloved fellow Fishy has sold her novel, "And They All Die In The End," to Geoffrey Kloske at Simon & Schuster, brokered by clutch ICM agent Kate Lee. Many of you will miss Elizabeth's witty and knowing contributions to Fishbowl, but none more than I, because she made the site better through everything she did online and off, and helped me become a better writer and editor that way, too. I will always appreciate the chance she took on me by letting me run amok on this blog (oh, Judith Miller, have you ruined that phrase forever?), and the trust she placed in me in so doing. I consider myself very lucky to be part of the MB world of blogs (full name: "The Wonderful and Fantastically Fish-O-Licious MB World of Blogs™") and to have had the chance to work with her in helping them flourish. Congratulations, Eliz! We'll miss you!

The Story of Elizabeth Spiers At mediabistro, As Told In Musical Clips From "The Sound of Music"

One year ago, Elizabeth was filled with excitement at the prospect of a new challenge: taking over as editor-in-chief of mediabistro. Blogs! Media! Redesign! Her heart was full. She took the job, and got to work. Everything was going swimmingly, but as she danced along she realized something was missing: Blogs. So she rounded up a little band of bloggers and led them merrily into the blogosphere. Everything went along swimmingly; she even launched a wildly popular lunch series (a step up from tea with jam and bread), based on the treasured advice of someone older and wiser. Sigh. Everything was bustling along, and it seemed that everyone was happy.

Except...there was still one dream she had yet to realize, one quiet wish of her heart. She looked inward, realized what she had to do.

Then, the gossip broke: What was she doing? Where was she going? Elizabeth would always love mediabistro and be grateful for the time they had shared; she knew she would watch it bloom and grow, bloom and grow forever. But there was a sad sort of clanging from the clock in the hall, and there was something she had to say. So she said it, confident in what she was leaving behind. And with the same fullness of heart and a sense of possibility, she moved on. Goodbye, Elizabeth! We'll miss you, but we're proud of you!

Fin.

[Spiers: Awww... thanks!]
