Crain’s Hires New Editor; Previous Ed to Pen Book

antunes090208.jpgXana Antunes, a longtime veteran of business journalism, will take over as editor of Crain’s New York Business on October 6, replacing Greg David who’s been with the paper for almost its entire 23-year existence. David will continue to oversee editorial and op-ed pages, write his twice-a-month column and host Crain’s Breakfast Forums.

David declined to comment on the hire, referring us to publisher Jill Kaplan, but told FishbowlNY that he’s considering writing a book about the New York economy. “It’s the subject I know best,” he said over the phone.

Antunes has solid credentials for the position. Previously, she was executive editor of CNNMoney.com. (Last November, we spoke with her about Fortune.com.) Before that, she rose through the ranks of the New York Post, eventually serving as editor from 1999-2001 but got the axe from Rupert Murdoch‘s paper and was replaced by current editor Col Allan.
