Dave Packer is a ‘Fresh’ Voice at WCBS-FM

wcbs-fm.jpg

Listeners to WCBS-FM in recent weeks have a heard a new voice on the station.

Dave Packer is not new to New York. In fact, he’s not even new to CBS Radio, having worked at sister station Fresh 102.7/WWFS until last year.

Packer and morning show co-host Danni were fired in September 2009.

Now he’s resurfaced.

At the time of Packer’s ouster at “Fresh,” Brian Thomas was serving as dual program director.

Thomas remains in charge at CBS-FM, the perennially top-rated Classic Hits station.

The versatile Packer has, seemingly, gained exclusivity as the main fill-in jock at 101.1

101.1 had a plethora of veteran jocks they could bring in off the bench, including “Big Jay” Sorensen and Russ “Famous Amos” DiBello.

“We take whoever is available,” Thomas says.

He points out that another of his talented back-up announcers, Don Geronimo took a full-time position at a station in Sacramento.

“I’m in good spirits and in sync with whatever happens to me henceforth, as it is all one big, interesting movie!” DiBello tells FishbowlNY.

Don’t read about it. Don’t even think about it. Talk about it, God forbid, and you’re the biggest asshole on the planet.

Sorry, the marketing campaign for the film “Catfish” is pissing us off. We just got this press release for a Cinefamily screening next month:

The filmmakers of Catfish — the most buzzed about film at Sundance this year — urge you not to say what the film’s about, and we agree. In fact, we urge you to resist Googling it, resist looking it up on Yahoo — don’t even ask Jeeves! Catfish is a film that people can ruin for you, either by “spoilers,” or more importantly, the strength of their opinions — part of the fun of the film is putting together your own point of view.

If you feel that strongly about it, why cut a trailer?

Maybe we’re just pissed because we didn’t know about the film and now we feel like we have to see the damn thing. Our feeble mind (yes, we have a hivemind) was successfully toyed with.

We don’t want to ruin a cool film for anyone, and we don’t want it ruined for us. But can someone honest out there tell us whether this campaign is total bullshit? Can we really not talk about Catfish? It’s important to us to figure this out, and we’re not entirely sure why.

Sports Radio 66/WFAN named its “Ultimate Fantasy Challenge” winner — Gregg Sussman of Manalapan, N.J. As the grand prize holder, Sussman is awarded a weekly hosting slot on New York’s top sports radio station.

“It’s honestly a dream come true and I’m thrilled to be given this opportunity of a lifetime,” Sussman said in a statement. “I also just want to thank everyone who voted, Mark [Chernoff, Operations Manager] and Eric [Spitz, Program Director], and all of the other finalists. It was an incredible experience.”

As a consolation prize, the four other finalists (John Shea of Wantagh, N.Y., Otis Harper of Roselle, N.J., Patrick Creighton of Bethpage, N.Y., and Al Renauto of White Plains, N.Y.) each will get to host one show on WFAN.

“This year’s WFAN Buffalo Wild Wings Fantasy Phenom challenge proved to be a rewarding experience,” Chernoff said in a statement. “Congratulations to all of our participants, and in particular our five finalists and grand prize winner Gregg Sussman”

A panel of judges, plus listeners on-line and text votes determined the grand prize winner.

Funny or Die: Jewel and Sarah Palin

The timing of this couldn’t be better since Sarah Palin just confused the singer Beck with Glenn Beck on her already confused Twitter feed. Bravo.

‘Gourmet’ Back in Print

They just can’t quit you Gourmet.

After shutting the magazine down nearly a year ago, Conde Naste is bringing the brand back to print for something they’re calling “Gourmet Quick Kitchen.” Set to launch on September 7, the effort compiles 81 recipes from previous Gourmet mags into a cookbook with a $10.99 cover price.

Here’s what the Gourmet site has to say about the matter:

As this issue of Gourmet Quick Kitchen will show, we favor convenience–a word we’d like to hereby reclaim from fast-food chains and frozen-dinner packaging–having discovered over the years that there’s nothing more convenient than fresh herbs or in-season vegetables, which need only the gentlest coaxing to release their miraculous flavors, or tender meat and seafood that cooks up in the time it takes to set the table. We think once you look inside, you’ll agree: Simplicity is not a shortcut, and speed requires no compromise. On the contrary, they’re the key to living deliciously every day.

Twitter: Magazines can be so misleading.

Yahoo: Restaurant foods that are delicious will kill you so dead.

Military Times: What was it like sharing a tent with alleged NY taxi driver stabber Michael Enright? Not as bad as sharing a tent with Eric Massa.

Weekdays, Adler will work as a general assignment report for “Today in L.A.” and will co-host the Saturday morning edition of the show.

Alder built a loyal fanbase working in New York as an anchor for WNYW’s popular Sunday show “Sports Extra.” She’s also the best reporter ever, according to the Internetz.
