MANHATTAN Magazine Launches New Social Title

This fall, MANHATTAN magazine is launching a new title, Charity & Social Datebook, which will highlight charity, cultural and social events. Former Town & Country editor Alexis Clark will serve as editor of the annual guide.

Clark was a senior editor for eight years at Town & Country, where she covered philanthropic and cultural events across the country.

“Finding an editor who thoroughly understands all aspects of New York’s dynamic social and philanthropic scene was the priority, and we most definitely found that person in Alexis,” says Leslie Wolfson, publisher of MANHATTAN. “And I have no doubt her experience and talent will help make Datebook a resource that affluent New Yorkers and the people who run our city’s various charitable organization can’t live without.”

“I couldn’t have asked for a more exciting project to work on,” Clark says. “Having attended and covered the most prestigious philanthropic events in New York for so many years, I feel very connected to the city’s charitable scene and I relish the opportunity to make Datebook a beautiful publication that will serve this very giving community.”

Charity & Social Datebook will be comprised of a calendar listing, profiles of social and civic leaders, features on selected charities and photos from New York charity events.

Last year, MANHATTAN announced that it would be increasing its frequency from seven to ten times a year in 2012.

Lifelong Giants Fan, WCBS Anchor Chris Wragge Set to Cover Super Bowl

It’s a big week for Big Blue and their millions of fans. But perhaps most visibly is Channel 2 anchor Chris Wragge, a diehard Giants fan, who gets the plumb assignment covering Super Bowl week from Indianapolis. Call it in his DNA, Wragge grew up loving the G-Men from day one.

“I’ve been a fan, literally, since birth,” Wragge tells FishbowlNY.

But more than a fan, Wragge and his family have owned Giants season tickets since the G-Men got their own stadium in the Meadowlands in 1976. From that first game as a six-year-old, Wragge got a first row seat (or section 324) to many of the franchise’s memorable moments.

“I’ve been there for every game, from the [Joe] Pisarcik game to the Flipper Anderson game, to the whole run in 1986,” Wragge remembers.

Of course, as a season ticket holder, Wragge is entitled to playoff seats as well. Baseball is famously talked about as the sport where father’s bond with their son. But Wragge would likely have a differing opinion.

Veteran Jock Bob Shannon Remains a No-Show for WCBS-FM Listeners

WCBS-FM mainstay Bob Shannon has been missed recently on his midday shift. The veteran of the Oldies, now Classic Hits station, has been replaced by night jocks Ron Parker and Joe Causi for the last several weeks.

Staffers are left to speculate about the reason for Shannon’s silence.

“No one has heard from Bob in several weeks,” a source tells FishbowlNY.

Shannon arrived at CBS-FM in the early 1980s. After the Jack FM debacle, Shannon was rehired by the station, linking listeners to CBS-FM’s glorious past.

The Daily’s Publisher on Year One: ‘We’ve Absolutely Met Our Expectations’

Few things have been as harshly scrutinized in the last year as The Daily. Sure, “Scream 4″ was attacked for not taking advantage of the superior talents of David Arquette, and more recently Lana Del Rey has been critiqued about 4,347 times too many, but The Daily seemed to get blasted more than anything. So how is The Little Tablet Paper That Could doing now? Its Publisher, Greg Clayman, says “just fine, thank you.”

Digiday reports that The Daily has the same reach as The Detroit Free Press or The Seattle Times, with about 250,000 monthly readers and 100,000 paid subscribers. It also continues to have the support of big-time advertisers, such as IBM and BMW and has finally worked out all of its technical issues. This, according to Clayman, is all part of the plan.

continued…

Esquire E-Commerce Site CLAD Shutting Down

That was quick.

Launched in November 2011 as a partnership with J.C. Penney, CLAD, an e-commerce website curated by Esquire, is shutting down, reports Folio:.

A J.C. Penney spokesperson told Folio:, “CLAD will cease operations effective April 27 in order to focus on the transformation of our core brand, jcpenney.”

CLAD was one of a few e-commerce initiatives from men’s magazines that aimed to capitalize on the merchandise that they reference, feature, and talk about. There’s GQ’s Park & Bond, a partnership with Gilt MAN, and Details joined with Net-A-Porter for MR PORTER.

Trump to Endorse/Ruin a Republican Candidate Soon

On “Good Morning America” this morning, Donald Trump told George Stephanopoulos that he wasn’t quite ready to endorse — and therefore destroy — a Republican candidate just yet. “I’m friendly with both,” said Trump. “I respect both. I like both… They both want my endorsement. We’ll see what happens but, in a very short time I’ll be making an endorsement.” Trump added that he didn’t think Newt Gingrich would drop out anytime soon, even if Mitt Romney wins Florida, as is expected.

Since Trump decided to leave the nation in suspense, Stephanopoulos pressed him on the Buffett Tax, proposed by President Obama. Shockingly enough, Trump said he needs to know more about it before supporting the idea, then admitted that he didn’t even know his own tax rate.

Sounds like just the kind of man a candidate wants supporting him.

Buzzfeed Grows Again, Adds Tech Vertical

It’s getting to the point that it’s difficult to keep up with how much Buzzfeed is expanding. It started in December when the site added Ben Smith to be its new Editor-in-Chief, then continued when Doree Shafrir joined as Executive Editor earlier this month, and now there’s more news: Matt Buchanan, a veteran of Gawker’s Gizmodo, has been added to the team.

According to All Things D, Buchanan will be in charge of Buzzfeed’s new tech section. Joining him is John Herrman, who most recently worked at Popular Mechanics, but is a former Gizmodo editor as well.

Buchanan said the chance to be part of something completely new was enough to lure him away from Gawker Media. “It’s an opportunity to build something completely new on a really exciting platform, which, even though the hallmark of Gizmodo is the immense freedom we all have, you know, the one thing I can never get here is the chance to do it all from scratch,” Buchanan told All Things D. “And to do something that’s different from what a lot other tech sites are doing, I hope.”

If you think this is it for Buzzfeed, you’re wrong. Smith said there will be more, so we’ll try to not blink and catch it all.
