Prometheus Global Media to Acquire Mediabistro (FishbowlNY)
Thursday morning, Mediabistro announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to sell its editorial and e-commerce assets to PGM-MB Holdings, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Prometheus Global Media, for $8 million cash. FishbowlDC As part of the deal, PrometheusGM will add to its portfolio and editorial sites including FishbowlDC, FishbowlNY, TVNewser and PRNewser, as well as the Mediabistro Job Board, and Mediabistro’s education business. New York Magazine Writer Crashes Silicon Valley Mating Call

Great angle.

Following much outcry about Bay Area startup Dating Ring’s very public attempts to herd in eligible east coast women and match them up with fully employed San Francisco men, Maureen O’Connor convinced event organizer Lauren Kay to let her crash the party. From her New York magazine piece, hilariously headlined “I Got Shipped to California to Date Tech Guys:”

One-hundred twenty-nine donors and $10,222 later, plans were in motion. Fifteen lucky women were selected to make the trip; each would go on two “curated” dates selected and planned by the Dating Ring.

As CNN points out at the top with an Editor’s Note, the article “10 of the World’s Most Underrated Cities” was originally published in May 2012 and has been updated two years later for another summer gander.

On the plus side, Queens leads off the list, and still comes ahead of the hot spot known as Isfahan, Iran. On the minus side, the article text touts Shea Stadium as a great place to catch a Mets game. And that, in turn, has further upped the reader comments total:

Life Refined Seeks Feature Pitches on Luxury Travel, Style and Culture

Life-Refined-Article1Life Refined is a luxury lifestyle mag with a twist: you can’t pick it up at a newsstand or the grocery store. In fact, you’d have to be a high-end company with wealthy clientele to get your hands on a copy.

This private pub’s content is 70 percent freelance written and editor-in-chief Marlene Srdic says she is always on the lookout for talented new writers. And submitting high-quality images with your story is a plus, since the magazine is photo-heavy. Here’s a snippet of what to pitch:

Life Refined runs about six to eight features per issue that range from 800 to 1,200 words. There’s no front-of-book, so shorter, newsy pieces won’t have a place in this magazine. However, interviews with well-known experts are game. Feature topics include luxury travel, style, home/design, food, wine and spirits, and art and culture. You can also pitch stories related to outdoor hobbies, such as golf, polo and skiing (a recent story described the art of bamboo fly rods).

For more pitching tips, read: How To Pitch: Life Refined.

NYT Trails Tony Awards Publicist Rick Miramontez

Gotta sing! Gotta promote! That could be the chorus for Patrick Healy‘s fun look in the New York Times at what goes into keeping Tony Awards prospects hot.

It’s also why a guy like Rick Miramontez gives complimentary tickets for Beautiful: The Carole King Musical to a doll like Liza Minnelli:

Minnelli followed him backstage where, minutes later, she greeted the show’s star, Jessie Mueller, a Tony nominee for Best Actress in a Musical…
