Deadline Gets a Makeover

In announcing Deadline’s first-ever website revamp, TV editor Nellie Andreeva says the move was largely motivated by the now-familiar refrain of a cresting base of mobile-device users.

So naturally, the early reader comments we paid the most attention to involve those on-the-go movers and shakers:

Jay: Looks good on Mac, but awful to navigate on cell phone.

Burkiss: The site is horrible on my phone. I can’t tell what is a feature and what is recent news. Just awful.

At press time, nine readers give Deadline’s new look a thumbs-down, three think the revised layout is cool and four have shared neutral feedback. It’s early days here and no doubt many of the issues and missing components (like that “Print” button Andreeva mentions) will be remedied in the coming days.

One nice touch is the extension of the Variety-Wall Street Journal-style reporter/editor thumbnail portraits. A site element that might have been problematic for founder Nikki Finke, were she still in the ranks.
