The news trail for this sad story is an unusual one. It starts with some mid-June paywall-ed coverage on PA website Lancaster Online and continues this week with an update from Nairobi, Kenya outlet Ghafla.
Denzil Edunglot Musumba, a 30-year-old foreign journalist who had been operating East Africa Radio USA out of Silver Spring, MD, was arrested at New York Port Authority June 4 as he was getting ready to fly back to Africa. He was subsequently extradited to Pennsylvania and arraigned late last week on some very ugly charges. From the Ghafla report:
Musumba was arrested on a fugitive from justice warrant related to charges of corruption of a minor and unlawful contact with a minor for sending sexually-graphic images of himself to a 17-year-old Penn Township girl, police said.
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office arranged extradition and Musumba was returned to Lancaster County and arraigned on the charges on Thursday. He was committed to Lancaster County Prison.
According to the East Africa Radio USA Facebook page, the Internet radio station had been broadcasting three hours per day and attracting a daily audience of around 1,200. The outlet’s official website URL meanwhile has been suspended.
