Details‘ David Beckham Double Take

By all accounts, David Beckham is one extraordinarily good looking fella. Pictures of the soon-to-be member of the L.A. Galaxy are so ubiquitous that you wouldn’t be remiss in thinking that they all look the same.

The March ’07 cover of Details [above, right], however, seems particularly familiar. And for good reason. A similar shot appeared on the front of the November ’05 issue [above, left]. When the futboller signed a $250 million contract with the left coast club, Details editor Dan Peres made a last-minute call to put Mr. Posh Spice on this month’s cover, assigning Michael Hirschorn to write a piece titled “Will America Buy David Beckham.” A shoot couldn’t be arranged, so the mag was forced to delve into its archives.

No word on what the subject of the original cover story was but Peres says it’s been killed permanently. Somewhere, a publicist is pissed.
