Director Rod Lurie Joins Twitter Brigade

As of June 13, writer-director Rod Lurie (The Contender, Commander in Chief) is on Twitter. The one-time LA film critic has apparently recognized the importance of interacting on social media, especially when you have dared to remake a Sam Peckinpah classic like Straw Dogs (Lurie’s version, with James Marsden and Kate Bosworth, comes out in September).

One of Lurie’s very first tweets predicted that a new level of stardom will greet another one of his remake’s co-stars, Alexander Skarsgård, best known for the role of Eric Northman on HBO’s smoldering vampire series True Blood. A number of other tweets have had to do with Lurie’s love of the cards:

But perhaps the most intriguing thing Lurie has tweeted so far is the revelation that the reason he remade Straw Dogs is because Dustin Hoffman, star of the 1971 original, “convinced him.” The filmmaker promises to explain himself further when junket time arrives; should be interesting.
