It’s not quite on the level of Billie Jean King vs. Bobby Riggs (a 1973 battle-of-the-sexes milestone that is about to get the Hollywood treatment). However, the May cover of Esquire does offer a fun he-shed, she-shed echo of our weekly Cover Battle.
In one cheeky corner, we have Lake Bell… And in the other, dual-cover cheeky corner, there is Tom Hardy:
Love the goofy reference to Bell as, possibly, the “Most Important Actor/Director/Writer of Her Generation.” Meanwhile,on the Hardy feature-side of things, the actor gives another shoutout to bare-knuckles fighter Bartley Gorman, the inspiration for his Bane voice. More, separate details on that below.
The May issue of Esquire hits newsstands April 22. Both covers will be on newsstands; subscribers will receive one, or the other.
