For Weekend Reading Pleasure

In Sunday’s New York Times Magazine, Clive Thompson has a long piece titled “Brave New World of Digital Intimacy” about “ambient awareness,” the “incessant online contact” we’ve come to know and love through Twitter, Tumblr, Dopplr, etc.

Like everything these days, it starts with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and his newsfeed, but extends further afield. It’s area that’s been covered before, but Thompson nails the subject matter in a way only he can.

Our favorite quote come from 39-year-old Ben Haley: “It’s like I can distantly read everyone’s mind. I love that. I feel like I’m getting to something raw about my friends. It’s like I’ve got this heads-up display for them.”
