Four More Years For The Sports Guy

051005_mbBill_SimmonsTN.jpgBill Simmons, better known to his legions of fans as The Sports Guy, signed a contract with ESPN that will keep him at the Worldwide Leader through 2010.

Aside from writing his column on ESPN.com and for ESPN The Magazine, Simmons will also help develop programming for ESPN Original Entertainment, saying it’s “crazy that we’ve conceded sports documentaries to HBO.”

The retention of its most popular columnist, whom some thought would split to SI.com, is huge for ESPN.com. In February, the site had fewer unique visitors than rival FoxSports.com for the first time.

Simmons, by the way, says he’d “never work” for SI following a March 2006 article that Simmons felt treated him unfairly.
