From TV Producer to Songwriter: Debra Gussin

Thinking of changing careers? FBLA offers the following story for inspiration.

TV producer turned songwriter Debra Gussin is profiled in the Academy for New Musical Theatre newsletter. Gussin, who’d produced everything from ABC Sports to National Geographic, left her job at the Dr. Phil show to devote herself to songwriting fulltime. She credits Marty Panzer, Barry Manilow’s long-time lyricist for changing her career path and her life. After composer Don Grady set her words to music, she says:

There was no turning back. I’m so privileged to have the support of these two inspiring talents. They are equally gifted at being human, and I am blessed that they believe in me the way they do.

Gussin’s now a member of the ANMT’s Board of Directors, as well.
