One of our favorite first-person Hollywood blogs is “Sutter Ink”, maintained by writer-producer Kurt Sutter (pictured). The creator of F/X’s Sons of Anarchy doesn’t post often, but when he does it is with a no-holds-barred tone that befits his gritty TV imprint.
In his latest post “I Have It All, I Hate It All”, Sutter worries that he is becoming like the jaded Hollywood types that he used to read about. Sutter writes:
I was under the false impression that the more successful the show became, the more room I would get to do it. But the opposite has occurred, the better the show becomes, the more corporate scrutiny I experience…
The solution? I’m not sure. I’m not a quitter and my ego is too big to entrust the show to anyone else. I’ve contemplated setting myself on fire at Pico and Motor, but that seemed a bit extreme, even for me.
Once upon a time, these sorts of insider confessions never made it past the studio gates. But thanks to today’s new world of Wild Wild West viral PR, Sutter’s candid blog posts and tweets have helped make his outlaw motorcycle gang drama F/X’s highest rated TV series ever. “Lochan Mor”, the eighth episode of Season Three, premieres tonight at 10 p.m.
