Gary Smith to Retire from Sports Illustrated

Gary Smith is retiring from Sports Illustrated after 31 years. Grant Wahl, a senior writer for the magazine, tweeted the news.

Smith has been with SI since 1983, and during his time there, won four National Magazine Awards. He’s widely regarded as one of the best magazine writers in the nation. Smith would pen four longform articles a year for SI, and they were all must reads.

Before joining SI, Smith worked for the Wilmington News-Journal, the Philadelphia Daily News, and the New York Daily News.
