Score one for TheWrap media-film reporter Alexander C. Kaufman. On Wednesday, he tipped that Hero Complex honcho Geoff Boucher would be joining Entertainment Weekly. Today, that news has been officially confirmed.
From this morning’s announcement:
Based in LA, Boucher will be joining EW’s Movies team on October 1st as a senior writer and will add his singular voice to EW’s print and digital platforms.
This is a HUGE coup for EW editor Jess Cagle. FishbowlLA can only imagine the line of suitors at Boucher’s door. As well as the heroic Web profit-participation elements of the reporter’s new contract.
The last time EW scored this kind of major poach was when Anthony Breznican came over from USA Today. According to today’s announcement, current EW numbers are 1.8 million guaranteed weekly print circulation and 130 million ew.com page views (July 2012).
TheWrap meanwhile continues to regularly share LA Times staff-related scoops, most likely because of the connections to the paper of executive editor Lisa Fung. Fung was at the LAT for many years before joining Sharon Waxman’s operation.
By the way, speaking of Breznican, check out if you have time his Twitter exchange this morning about the Boucher hire with the /Film gang. Fun stuff.
