Go See Love Junkie As a Performance Piece

lovejunkieimage.jpgFull disclosure: we love The Love Junkie Rachel Resnick. We’re a notch below parking outside her window at night.

There is a live performance of her recently to paperback book, Love Junkie from director Arye Gross.

The entire release below:

On October 11th at 8pm, members of The Antaeus Theatre Company, under the direction of Arye Gross, will present “Love Junkie, A Performance Piece” at Frank Pictures Gallery against the backdrop of provocative photographs and paintings by Emma Ferreira. The evening will feature a dramatic re-telling of scenes from Resnick’s new groundbreaking book about sexual addiction and recovery, followed by a Q&A with Rachel Resnick. The event is hosted by author Rachel Resnick and Laurie Frank, and Emma Ferreira’s provocative collection, “Exposed”, which explores issues of intimacy, will also be on display. The event is from 6:30-9:30pm, with the live performance beginning at 8pm.

Along with Rachel Resnick, author of Love Junkie, media pro, and Yale graduate, the event will feature Director Arye Gross, members of the Antaeus Theatre Company, and guests spanning the worlds of psychology (Judith Orloff, author of Emotional Freedom), literature (Janet Fitch, author of White Oleander), entertainment (actress Victoria Tennant and director Allison Anders), and arts (Emma Ferreira, artist behind “Exposed”, current provocative show at Frank Pictures Gallery).

Sex addiction is one of the hottest topics making headlines today, and Rachel Resnick, author of Love Junkie, is creating a massive stir nationwide. The bare-all book courageously blows the lid off this hot-button topic in the form of a powerfully written memoir about Resnick’s own dangerous addiction to love and sex.

The paperback edition of her book debuts October 5th. Love Junkie has won praise from Vanity Fair, The NY Post, Cosmopolitan, The NY Observer, and The Guardian. Janet Fitch, author of White Oleander, said: “Reading Love Junkie is like watching a sleepwalker taking a stroll on a freeway. All you can do is pray. Gorgeously written, piercingly honest.” Elizabeth Wurtzel, author of Prozac Nation, wrote of Love Junkie: “A deeply true, wholly aching account of the dangerous way we live now…great fun to read and finally fully redemptive.”

Addiction to sex and love has been discussed and hotly debated in recent articles and reviews in The New York Times, Psychology Today, MSNBC. A new reality show, Dr. Drew’s Sex Rehab, airs this fall; critically acclaimed series “Californication” showcases this issue; and recent news stories like Rihanna’s remind us how lethal addictive love can be. The hope is that more people will take courage, come forward, and get help.

Ms. Resnick herself is frequently cited as an expert and has been interviewed or written for Marie Claire, “The Mike and Juliet Show,” Los Angeles Times, Grazia Magazine, GMTV’s “The Breakfast Show with Lorraine Kelly,” and others, in England as well as in the United States.
