Governor Bobblehead Contest Contested!

meg-jerrrrrrrrobbleheads-240cm081910.jpgThis is why we love politics. The minor-league baseball team River Cats staged a gubernatorial bobblehead giveaway at a game last Friday. The first bobblehead to be sold out would be declared the winner. Would more people line up for Jerry Brown? Or would the masses demand Meg Whitman dolls? The organizers boasted that during the ’08 presidential election River Cats fans went the way of the rest of the country and went for Obama over McCain figurines.

According to River Cats spokesperson Meg Whitman won this last contest. Get your inauguration tickets now…hold on a sec…

Apparently there were – wait for it – voting irregularities!

Newsvine reports:

The couple noticed other irregularities in this crucial Bobblehead primary. “Fans wanting Brown bobbleheads were directed to a single line that was backed up, while Whitman backers had multiple entry lines that were flowing smoothly…” Their observations are confirmed by the Sacramento newspaper, which reports that the Main Gate had run out of Jerry Brown’s dolls early – 15 minutes after the giveaway started at 6:00. (And well before the Meg Whitman dolls.) Jerry Brown’s campaign manager also suggested on Twitter that in fact, Meg Whitman may have purchased all the remaining tickets for the sell-out game in order to give her bobblehead a more friendly electorate. “Her bobblehead WILL triumph. It’s only $$$.”

Well let’s hope this bobblehead showdown doesn’t turn out to be a bellwether. It’ll be a long strange November if it is.
