Harvey Weinstein Cops to Some Laughable ‘For Your Consideration’ Ads

There has always been the perception that some awards season ads taken out by the studios and plastered with a solemn “For Your Consideration” tease are solely for the benefit of the clients in question. Much like a big fat billboard on Sunset Blvd. for a likely big fat flop, these category of promos are all about ensuring that a creative collective will be ready and willing when the next project comes around.

Still, it’s refreshing to hear someone like Harvey Weinstein personally fess up to the hazards of the FYC trade. In a seven-minute inteview with Renee Montagne for NPR’s “All Things Considered,” “Morning Edition,” he admitted being guilty of some dubious PR:

“Sometimes I’ve had to take out some of the funniest ads in my life: ‘For Your Consideration …’ and then you look at, fill in the name, and you go, ‘Oh my God, this is embarrassing. Come on, what person put a gun to my head to make me take the ad out?’”

Weinstein wisely refused during the interview to take it a step further. Asked by Montagne for a specific bogus-ad example, he replied that he could not provide that info because he wishes to remain employed.
