Hearst Appoints New VP In Digital Media Group

Hearst Magazines announced a new member of the Digital Media group this morning. Mark Weinberg of Travelzoo.com will be joining Hearst as VP of programming and product strategy for the media giant’s online division.

According to the press release, Weinberg’s is a brand new position, “responsible for the strategy and execution of programming for Hearst’s portfolio of digital destinations,” and, of course, to reshape Hearst for the New Media age.

Hearst already owns a number of online properties like shopping community Kaboodle, RealAge, Delish and the recently-announced RealBeauty.com. And Hearst’s women’s, fashion and beauty and teen networks rank in the top 10 of all ad-focused sites in those categories, according to ComScore.

“This is an exceptional time in the world of media, and I am excited to be a part of Hearst’s ambitious and well-conceived plans for growth on the Web,” he said. “I am eager to join this innovative team and continue to develop Hearst’s rich content in various forms for the Web and other platforms.”

Before Travelzoo, Weinberg worked in content development and programming at AOL, served as national managing editor for the Knight Ridder New Media/Real Cities division and spent many years working in editorial for The Dallas Morning News.

Weinberg starts his new job on Monday.
