Heidi Klum Nabs ‘German of the Week’

Ahead of Saturday’s “big hats”-themed 40th birthday celebration, supermodel and reality TV star Heidi Klum has received an early present from website local.de. She is their selection for “German of the Week.”

Klum has been nominated during Project Runway for a bunch of Emmys and other awards, but she’s never actually won. Perhaps this dubious honor (a dead guy won it last week) will help tip her into the winner’s circle. From local.de’s faraway, fun shout-out:

Klum lives in America, where the public largely love her. But to fall back into the arms of Germany it could be that she needs to cultivate a “nicer” outward image, newspaper Die Welt said…

She has, we think, steered stereotypes away from a beer-swilling, lederhosen-wearing Germany towards a more glamorous one.

Klum was the first German to grace the cover of a Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition as well as the first German to crack Victoria’s Secret angels ranks. She’s the umpteenth German to garner weekly kudos from the Local site, but timed as it is, the honor surely feels a little special. Alles Gute zum Geburtstag!
