Henry’s Farmers Market is Selling Shark Meat

nosharkmeat.jpg

Iemanya Oceanica, an organization dedicated to the conservation of sharks, has sent out a petition to try and stop Henry’s Farmers Market, a SoCal grocery store chain from selling shark meat.

Whale meat? Shark meat? What are we adrift vikings?

They write:

Targeting: Brandon Bagley (VP of Sales, Merchandising, & Marketing/Henry’s Farmers Market) and Jim Nielson (Director of Operations/Henry’s Farmers Market)
Started by: Iemanya Oceanica

Approximately 100 million sharks are killed each year for their meat and fins. At this rate, sharks are quickly going extinct. Shark meat is not only unsustainable, but it also contains high levels of toxins, such as mercury.

Henry’s Farmers Market advertises in their mission statement that their goal is to “enhance the lives of their customers…by offering high quality, value priced, fresh products that support a healthy lifestyle….”

We need to insist that Henry’s upholds its mission and stop selling unsustainable products.
