Hewitt don’t wanna fix what ain’t broke

60 mins.jpg60 Minutes creator Don Hewitt is consistent, that’s for sure: as Joe Hagan reports (not unlike Jacques Steinberg before him), Hewitt’s dream news program is the waking perfection of his baby, 60 Minutes.

According to Hagan, Hewitt has a pilot ready to go (on which CBS passed) and is in talks with PBS to pick it up. With the icons stepping down (but reluctant to leave the game), “PBS could find a huge infusion of available talent in the coming years” (especially if Rather tires of covering the Vanity Fair beat with softies like celeb poker).

The timing is also good for PBS, because apparently network news is dead. (Don’t tell poor Bob Schieffer, he’s just getting going!)
