They’re cousins. After graduating from the Missouri School of Journalism, he – Matthew Hibbard – became social media editor at the St. Louis Business Journal while she – Laura Hibbard (pictured) – headed to New York to work for Arianna Huffington.
In a fun little interview piece today in his paper, he asks her to detail the NYC social media beat. It’s safe to say Laura’s duties at The Huffington Post are a little more involved:
The main Huffington Post Twitter account publishes a new tweet every five minutes 24/7. Yes, even at 1 a.m. in the morning.
“There are people online at 1 a.m., specifically on the west coast and our international audience,” Laura said. “Plus, if our tweet gets one click, what’s the harm in that?”
She also provides a brief but still interesting overview of the proprietary dashboard HuffPo reporters and bloggers use to schedule their tweets for social media team review. Read the cousins convo here.
P.S. Peter doesn’t ask Laura if/how often she gets confused – on social media and the VIP invite list – with Laurie Hibberd, the Canadian-born wife of Live with Kelly and Michael producer Michael Gelman. We’re guessing every once in a while, still.
