Is Thomson Dissolving WSJ Page One Staff?

OTR_MurdochThomson.jpgIs the Wall St. Journal’s Page One staff about to be disappeared? That’s what Gawker is reporting via a tipster who tells them to

Watch for announcement today or soon that page one staff — what used to be the backbone of the WSJ and its strong features — will be merged with news desk and current editor Mike Williams will be roving feats editor.
Things have been awfully quiet in Murdoch land for at least a week now and if this tip pans out it would appear to be in line with new editor Robert Thomson‘s rumored vision for the paper. Of course, one wonders how much “dissolution” of the paper is possible, and if at some point it won’t just resize iteself as a tabloid and rename itself the Wall St. Post.
