It’s Official! Robert Thomson New Managing Editor at WSJ

_images_RobertThomson-1.jpgIt looks like Rupert Murdoch has found his Radar. It’s just been announced that Robert Thomson has just been appointed Managing Editor of the Wall Street Journal.

According to the release the Dow Jones Special Committee “unanimously endorsed Mr. Thomson’s appointment following his nomination by the Company last week.” Says Rupe: “Mr. Thomson’s outstanding career as a financial journalist, foreign correspondent and editor, equips him perfectly for the position.”

There has been much speculation in recent weeks over who Rupe would tap for the position after it was vacated by Marcus Brauchli. Earlier this month the Observer wrote that Thompson’s interim role as “head of content” in the wake of Brauchli’s resignation had met with “mixed results.” And in the last few days rumors were flying that UK tabloid editor Rebekah Wade was in the running. Thomson, a fellow Aussie, was moved over to the WSJ from the UK Times in late 2007 amid speculation that Murdoch intended to install him as publisher there.
