Kardashian Sisters Take Over LA Times Front Page

This morning on the LATimes.com home page, there is a static right-hand top cube ad featuring the Kardashian sisters and a matching dynamic banner running across the bottom of the page.

But if you happen to be a print subscriber, the reality TV trio’s intrusion is even more dramatic. Today’s front page above-the-fold is nothing but Kardashians, impeccably coiffed and striding towards the reader in individualized leopard-print outfits. It’s the latest full-page print wraparound ad sold by the Times, generating no doubt more than a few double takes among the publication’s older-skewing front lawn picker-uppers.

The ad touts a scheduled Sunday afternoon drop-in by the trio at a Sears in Cerritos, with a bottom-of-the-page reminder that “Celebrity appearances subject to rescheduling or cancellation.” In other words, line-up people, there’s always a chance that Khloé, Kim and-or Kourtney will wake up and decide to KO this particular Kardashian Kollection kowtow.

FishbowlLA thinks the leopard-print motif is an apt one for the Times. In these challenged media times, a paper needs to outfit the traditional side of things with any sort of advertising spots available. These false-front LA Times ads, which have previously been used to promote the Tim Burton movie Alice in Wonderland and Universal Studios Hollywood’s King Kong ride, should be a near-daily occurrence. Discount them as needed, front lawn geezers be damned!
