It’s not every day that a TV news director can cram five new hires into a single tweet. But that was the case Monday with KTLA’s Jason Ball:
The two biggest names are of course the KTTV FOX 11 tandem of Courtney Friel and Jillian Barberie. When we spoke to Friel a couple of months ago, she said her priority was to spend some quiet time at home with husband Carter Evans. Apparently, either the novelty of that wore off or the KTLA offer was just too good to pass up.
And like Friel, Barberie held no ill will towards KTTV when she left last fall, embracing the change as a new beginning. Congrats to the two of them and the three other KTLA hires: Steve Kuzj, formerly with ABC 15 News in Phoenix; Kimberly Cheng, also from that Arizona affiliate; and Olsen Ebright, executive producer, digital, previously a social media lead with NBC Southern California.
Update – 04/30/13: Ball was kind enough to fill us in a bit more on what Friel and Barberie will be doing. Barberie will host the new entertainment news program The Hollywood Mix, which will debut in June on KTLA and sister station KTXL in Sacramento. Friel will contribute as both an anchor and reporter.
