LAT Announces 300 Will Be Laid Off, Then It’s Stalled Because of Chapter 11

bread_line_depression22.jpg
Times are tough. If you work at a major metropolitan general newspaper – you’re wading through a daily blood bath.

So LAT brass announces 300 jobs will be axed (70 in the newsroom).

When? Uhm. Soon?

Apparently because the Tribune Company filed for bankruptcy there is a whole process to these things.

From LAT:

In remarks to the staff, Editor Russ Stanton said it was not clear yet when the layoffs would occur. One hold-up: The Times’ parent company, Tribune Co., is operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, and the proposed severance plan for laid-off workers still needs to be approved by the bankruptcy court.

So not only do staffers now have to play the guessing game (if you’re older and get paid more we guess it’s you). It’s also the waiting game.

Nicely done, guys.
