Linda Stein Arrest: How Did The Newspapers Stack Up?

1109stein.jpgA short time ago this morning, the personal assistant of Linda Stein was arrested in the celeb real estate agent/Ramones manager’s brutal murder. Natavia Lowery allegedly made statements implicating herself in Stein’s murder on October 30 because Stein “just kept yelling at her.”

Here’s how the Post, News and Times stacked up on breaking the story:

  • New York Post: First out of the gate(*) at 10:30am by Jamie Schram. A five graf piece announcing Lowery’s arrest in Virginia.

Lowery’s age is given as 27 and a quote is given from NYPD spokesman Paul Browne, saying Lowery “made statements implicating herself in the killing.” Post adds she was in Virginia visiting her boyfriend.

  • New York Daily News: An 11 graf piece is posted at 10:55am by Alison Gendar.

Lowery’s age is given as 26 by the NYDN. Lots of additional information in the DN piece, including Lowery’s previous arrest on identity fraud charges in December, when she “stole the identity of a high school friend to set up $300 credit lines at T-Mobile and Target and used the fake identity to buy thousands of dollars in furniture in Virginia Beach.”

  • New York Times: An 11 graf piece is posted at 11:17am by Al Baker and Sewell Chan.

Lowery’s age is given here as 26 as well, meaning that the Post most likely got her age wrong. More additional details here, including background information from Browne and the news that Lowery has been extradited to the 7th precinct on the Lower East Side. New quote from an unnamed official: “It was that Linda just kept yelling at her, over everything… They fought. It was like a continuous thing, like a buildup.”

(*): The New York Post reported in a Flash image that their update had been posted at 10:30am. No other time markers were available.
