Los Angeles Daily News Loses Another Journalist

The Los Angeles Daily News has laid off LAUSD reporter George Sanchez. Gary Scott reports on his blog that he’s heard from a couple sources that “management was looking to eliminate someone from the Metro desk and that Sanchez volunteered to take the bullet.” The Daily News union blog has this to say about Sanchez:

In addition to his reporting duties, Sanchez played an active role in the bargaining unit, volunteering to serve as both a steward and a member of the bargaining committee. For the newsroom, losing someone with his dedication and commitment to his fellow journalists is definitely a painful sacrifice.
