American Apparel: The Magazine?
And then there is Jacques-Charley, a pet project of his and Alonzo's. While some at American Apparel laugh at the mention of it and claim that the syllables "Zhac-Sharlee" are merely something Charney enjoys repeating in an exaggerated French accent, Jacques-Charley would be a Dov Charney-style magazine colorful, hectic and stimulating, mingling social issues, fashion, art and erotica and featuring photos that go a little further than his advertising does. In other words, early Playboy (with a vital, moustached Hugh Hefner at the helm) + vintage Oui + Jane magazine (circa 2004) + Vice (any year) + Max Fish/F train clientele + tantalizing American Apparel ads. It's the classic Charney formula. And it'll probably work. And You Thought Abercrombie & Fitch Was Pushing It? [NYT Mag]
