Hearst Is On A Spending Binge![]() William Randolph Hearst liked buying property. So does the company he started. It looks like the Hearst Corporation has been on a real estate buying binge around their 57th Street headquarters. They purchased three nearby apartment buildings: 811 Ninth Avenue for $17.1 million, 828 Ninth Avenue for $4.9 million and 304 West 56th Street for $7.6 million. They're also overpaying for them. A lot. As in paying midtown office space prices for Hell's Kitchen apartment buildings. Why? The New York Observer speculates Hearst is trying to piece together a potential development site in Hells Kitchen they can resell for profit. In other Hearst news, the company just acquired social networking/shopping site kaboodle.com. A "social shopping" site, kaboodle has approximately 690,000 unique monthly visitors. Press release after the jump. Neal Ungerleider HEARST CORPORATION TO ACQUIRE KABOODLE, INC.
