Rite Aid, Eckerd Ban Shock as Photographer Calls Off Settlement, Launches Protest Site
Yon says he backed out of the settlement when he learned his photo would be used to promote the magazine online. Hachette then offered an additional $20,000 for promotional use, which Yon refused. Meanwhile, Brooks, Eckerd and Rite Aid pharmacies have pulled the magazine from their shelves over 5,000 stores according to Yon. In addition to posting contact info of Hachette executives, the site also lists contact information for Shock's distributors and advertisers. According to Photo District News, Brooks and Eckerd pulled Shock after receiving complaints about the use of Yon's photo. Rite Aid did so before. During the settlement negotiations, Yon says he learned that the photo was also being used without his permission on the cover of Hachette's Choc the original French version of the magazine and has sold 350,000 copies in Europe.
