Today's NYT Mag marvels at the wonders of modern communication in Katharine Q. Seelye's Radar preview :

Come the end of April, visitors to the Web site (www.radarmagazine.com) will be reintroduced to Radar, which its founders are trying to make irreverent, urban and fun. Then, by the time the magazine comes out on May 24, readers will have been primed for the first issue and be looking forward to the next.

The strategy is highly unusual, and it reflects some of the thought that has gone in to making sure that this time Radar stays in the air.

What! Harness the power of the web to draw in consumers! Incredible. We're still reeling from the possibilities.

Radar editor Maer Roshan has big plans for the website, including innovative original content:

These will include a stock ticker with the relative popularity of various celebrities ("Trump up by three over Tina Brown!" Mr. Roshan intoned). ( Ed.- Helpful tips available at Fametracker, fyi.)

There will be "after-death" interviews when the departed are back in the news (say, with Howard Hughes when "The Aviator" came out)( Ed.- Frank Rich, you'll like that)

And fans of the interactive will have a chance to post pictures of themselves on the Web site for 15 minutes along with a sentence or two about why they should be famous. All the while, a clock will tick down their 15 minutes. ( Ed. Almost like being selected as a Nerve featured personal, except without the sex. )
