Wintour, Jon Stewart, 'Brangelina' Top List of Magazine Innovators
The FOLIO: 40* list of magazine industry influencers is out and, like last year (which had mb cyberhostess Laurel Touby and Gawker.com founder Nick Denton co-mingling with the New Yorker's David Remnick and Esquire's David Granger) it's peppered with a mix of the familiar and unfamiliar. This year's list has Vogue editrix Anna Wintour, Martha Stewart Omnimedia publishing president Lauren Stanich, Billboard publisher John Kilcullen and Redbook's Mary Morgan alongside paidcontent.org's Rafat Ali, Maine Senator Susan Collins (for her role in postal reform) and, naturally, the "Brangelina, Tomkat, Benifer, you name it" phenomenon. My favorite member of this year's lineup, though, is the one whose profile I wrote: Jon Stewart, for his surgical dissection of the magazine industry last fall at a panel discussion hosted by the Magazine Publishers of America. In front of magazine advertisers. For which he was reportedly paid $150,000. Like him or not, the event reverberated. And for those of you scoring Stewart's career trajectory:
