Ahead of the
debacle spectacle that is Fashion Week, which will descend upon New York’s Bryant Park Sept. 8-15, The New York Daily News whets our whistle with its Fashion’s 50 Most Powerful list. Since we wouldn’t wish a slideshow slog on anyone, we extracted the list’s nine fashion media mavens who matter — a majority of whom work in some type of digital fashion media — after the jump.
1) Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. Duh. (Ed. Note: Watch this space soon for an excerpt from our Fashion Week So What Do You Do? interview with her haute henchman, Vogue editor-at-large Andre Leon Talley.)
6) IMG Fashion senior vice president Fern Mallis, who revealed to us back in February that she credits Joan Rivers with the explosive convergence of fashion and celebrity that’s dominated the past decade.
9) Ruth Finley, who at nearly 90 years young, made her move from print to online and began posting her hallowed Fashion Calendar (publishing continuously since 1941!) online starting in June 2007. See, digiphobes? There’s hope for you too!
15) Candy Pratts Price, executive director of Style.com and winner of the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Eugenia Sheppard Award for excellence in journalism this year.
28) Brandusa Niro, editor-in-chief of The Daily — that staple that’s gotten us through so many bouts of “standing room only” — who suggests that her toothsome sites and pubs function as business-minded WWD‘s more entertaining sisters.
29) The Sartorialist, a.k.a. photographer Scott Schuman, whose pictures of people on the street and their attire populate his quietly addictive blog.
