The Nielsen Company quit pink-slipping staffers for the time being, announcing today that former Discover Card exec Mark Hosbein would step in as its new senior vice president, marketing.

NIELSEN BUSINESS MEDIA APPOINTS MARK HOSBEIN SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, MARKETING

20-Year Veteran from Discover Card, Time Warner and Nabisco Will Lead Integrated Marketing and Strategy Development Across the Company

New York, NY (April 29, 2008) — Nielsen Business Media today announced it has appointed Mark Hosbein to the position of Senior Vice President of Marketing. A highly respected marketing executive, Hosbein joins Nielsen with more than 20 years of experience in the financial services, online media, television, and consumer packaged goods industries. He will be based in New York and report to Greg Farrar, President of Nielsen Business Media, who made today's announcement.

"I'm excited to have Mark on board because I'm confident he will be instrumental in building a solid marketing organization to increase the effectiveness and sophistication of our marketing capabilities," said Farrar. "Mark will be key in helping us develop strong, uniform marketing processes across the company.

In his new role, Hosbein will lead all of Nielsen Business Media's integrated marketing and strategy development efforts across multiple platforms — online, in print and face-to-face.

During his career, Hosbein has led new product launches, interactive marketing efforts and consumer advertising campaigns. Most recently, he was Senior Vice President, Brand Management and Advertising for Discover Card, where he led their brand development and advertising efforts. Prior to that, he spent eight years at Time Warner Inc., starting at AOL where he managed strategic partnerships as Vice President, Interactive Marketing. He held subsequent roles as Time Warner's Vice President, Global Marketing, and at CNN, as Vice President, Consumer Marketing. Early in his career, Hosbein also worked in brand management at Pepsi and Nabisco.

Hosbein holds a Bachelor's degree from Stanford University and an MBA from Dartmouth.
